Helping You
Find Your True Path

My
Story
I'd like to share with you the main lessons of my life so far. These experiences have shaped me and brought me to this point. They might not seem linked at first sight,
yet they form the thread behind why I have decided to become a mentor for young adults.
On Feeling Stuck
I know what it’s like to feel stuck, stressed and anxious about the future.
I was like that when I grew up, having no idea of what to do next.
I became increasingly worried about getting the grades.
The signs of stress were there: severe episodes of eczema and bouts of asthma, that turned into periods of depression later in my life.
I remember looking for my first job after graduating and getting nowhere.
It was a different time then. Back in the 1990s, unemployment was high in France.
There was no internet, jobs were advertised in the newspapers and local ads, applications were made through the post. It seemed to take ages to get a response, if any. The opportunities seemed fewer, even with a degree.
I remember how disheartening it was some days, that feeling of getting nowhere, so I can relate to what it feels for some of you today.
Listen to your Heart
Looking back, I’d say to you: don’t let the mind do all the talking, listen to your heart too, to what that little voice inside has to say.
When I was in my teens, I wanted to be an English teacher - or at least that was my idea then of what to do when becoming a grown up.
But at a parents/teachers evening, I was told that I could do way better than that.
So I obliged. I listened to the voice of reason, to the grown ups around me, who surely knew better than me.
Or through the lens of Ikigai - the Japanese concept of one’s reason for being - I focused too much on what I was good at and what I could be paid for, and not enough on what I loved.
Perhaps the time I listened the most to my heart was when I decided to live and work abroad. It was after an amazing work experience in Norway one summer during my studies.
The rest of the time, I was always weighing the pros and cons, carefully choosing the next steps with the better odds of success - be it for getting the grades, choosing the school with the highest ranking, opting for the security of a paid job instead of being my own boss, etc.
And by making a habit of not listening to my heart enough, I headed straight into the wall of a massive burnout ten years ago.
Everyone has Talent
Everyone - yes everyone - has got talent.
But for it to shine, it needs to be nurtured.
That's what I learned from my daughter.
Felicity has Down syndrome and with that, learning difficulties.
She’s not cut for GCSEs, A levels or uni, yet she is talented.
She loves being on stage (she’s currently studying performing arts at college), she is loving and caring and she has a wicked sense of humour.
Her emotional intelligence is way higher than you’d imagine, and she can read the mood of a room the minute she steps in.
All these talents could have been left buried if as parents we hadn’t cared and paid attention to who she really is, and instead accepted the usual stereotypes.
It’s the same when it comes to your own talents.
First, be reassured that you are talented, even if right now you’re not too sure what your gifts are.
Second, take the time to step back and reflect - get some help if you need to - in order to find out.
Third, own your gifts, love them for what they are and nurture them. Use them to your best advantage. Life will become much easier and far more enjoyable if you do that.
Mother Nature is your Best Friend
She is one of the best - if not your best ally.
To start with, spending time in nature is good for your health: it soothes your nervous system and strengthens your immune system.
I know so as spending time in the woods and the parks made a massive contribution to my recovery after my big burnout.
But Nature is even more than that: she is our best teacher.
Observe what’s around you and learn from what you see. Apply these learnings in all aspects of your life and enjoy what unfolds.
I’ve learned a lot from Mother Nature and I keep learning!
So this is my story so far and the reasons why I want to help you find your own path.
In summary:
*I know what it feels like to be stuck
*Listen to your heart, don’t let the mind do all the talking
*Everyone has got talents, including YOU
*Mother Nature is your best friend
If this has caught your attention and your imagination, let’s have a conversation!
